The Dutch National Scrubbing Center (NaWas) protects participants against DDoS attacks. Besides protection, NaWas offers valuable insights about the changing landscape of DDoS. To better combat these malicious attacks, we share our up-to-date knowledge with interested parties. Together we stand strong against DDoS attacks.
The number of DDoS attacks handled by NaWas in Q1 remains roughly the same as in Q4 2024, new statistics published by NBIP show. The largest attack handled was 313 Gbps. The most common types of attacks were UDP Flood, NTP amplification, TCP Flag Attack and DNS amplification. Less frequently seen attacks such as TFTP attacks fell out of the top 5 of most common attacks, where these types of attacks were quite prominent in the previous quarter.
The geopolitical situation is still largely shaping the DDoS landscape. Reports from major hacktivist instigated DDoS attacks are coming from across Europe, including Spain, Germany and Slovakia. On demand DDoS mitigation services as well as up to date knowledge about network resilience to these types of attacks remains of the utmost importance for organizations that are at risk of exposure to politically motivated DDoS attacks.
